A man has been charged with leading police on a pursuit through Sydney's north before crashing a stolen car into a suburban front yard.

The man was allegedly stopped after being spotted reversing down an M1 off-ramp at Berowra on Saturday morning.

It's alleged he fled the scene and evaded officers for about 15 minutes before ploughing a stolen car into the yard of a Wahroonga home.

Police combed the area and found the man hiding inside a home on the same street.

The 21-year-old has been charged with break and enter charges, driving dangerously and while disqualified and engaging in a pursuit.

He has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.
