Man charged after 'fleeing' breath test

A 25-year-old man has been charged after doing a runner to avoid a roadside breath test in Lake Macquarie in NSW.

Police pursued the man's Mitsubishi Magna on Sunday morning when he refused to stop in Cardiff.

The Magna subsequently mounted a footpath and stopped, before the driver allegedly did a u-turn, hitting a marked police car in the process.

The driver and a 17-year-old teenage girl later ran from the car but police, using tracking dogs, located the pair hiding in a backyard.

The man has been charged with multiple offences including driving in a dangerous manner, negligent driving and driving while disqualified.

He was bailed to appear at Belmont Local Court on September 23.
