Man allegedly armed with knife, saw charged with assaulting police at airport
A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer at a regional NSW airport, where he had earlier been found with a knife and saw.
Police were called to Ballina Byron Gateway Airport just after 9.30am on Monday following reports a man had entered a restricted area without permission.

Officers searched the 38-year-old and allegedly found a knife and saw among his belongings.
He was told to leave the airport, which he initially did, but it’s alleged he returned a short time later.

Police arrested the man after he allegedly assaulted a senior constable and left the officer with minor injuries.
Paramedics treated the officer at the scene, while the 38-year-old was taken to Lismore Base Hospital for assessment.
He was later released from hospital and taken to Lismore Police Station, where he was charged with several offences.
They include assaulting a police officer and causing actual bodily harm, possessing a knife in a public place, using an offensive weapon to prevent his arrest, resisting police, failing to comply with a direction and damaging property valued at $2000 or less.
He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 1 on Tuesday.
