Man arrested after Sydney stand-off

A man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting another man then arming himself with a knife and barricading himself inside a home in Sydney's inner west.

Police were called to the Lewisham residence on Railway Terrace following the alleged assault at around 7.30pm on Friday.

Officers secured a perimeter and with the assistance of police negotiators and the Tactical Operations Unit a 40-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody at about 11.30pm.

He was charged with common assault and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
