Man arrested after four-hour rooftop standoff at Coogee

A four-hour rooftop standoff by a knife-wielding man at Coogee, east of Sydney, has ended with his arrest.

Police had responded to reports a man was making threats at an Alison Road house about 8pm yesterday.

He then allegedly armed himself with a carving knife and climbed on to the roof of the house.

Police established a perimeter and called in negotiators and paramedics, and the man surrendered about 12.20am.

He was taken to the Prince of Wales Hospital for drug use and mental health assessment.

The man will be charged later today, police said.

No one was injured in the incident.
