Man allegedly drink drove with boy on lap

A Blue Mountains P-plate driver will face court accused of drink-driving with a 10-year-old boy on his lap.

The 20-year-old Katoomba man told police he had drunk 15 cans of full-strength beer after they pulled him over near a fast food outlet on Lithgow's Main Street and he allegedly blew a 0.133.

Police will allege when the man was pulled over by Highway Patrol officers, he and a 10-year-old boy were strapped beneath the same seat belt, and that the child's hands appeared to be on the steering wheel.

A woman was sitting in the front passenger seat and there were three children sitting in the back, police say.

The man was charged with mid-range drink-driving, and was served traffic infringement notices driver relating to failure to wear a seat belt properly, restrain a child properly and display P-plates on his vehicle.

His licence has been suspended and he is due to appear in Lithgow Local Court on August 28.
