Man acquitted of Sydney driveway murder

A man has been found not guilty of murdering a householder who was gunned down in his Sydney driveway while bringing in his rubbish bin.

Mahmoud Barakat, 31, had pleaded not guilty to murdering Ali Jammas who was struck with four of six bullets fired outside his Abbotsbury home on July 12, 2013.

The Crown alleged he was either the shooter or the man who drove a car to and from the scene, but on Tuesday a NSW Supreme Court jury found him not guilty.

CCTV footage from neighbouring houses showed a silver-grey Subaru WRX entered the street at about 6.30am and remained parked outside nearby until 10am when Mr Jammas came out of his house to get the wheelie bin.

A man then got out of the car, ran down the street and shot the victim, before returning to the car which left the scene.

The Crown had alleged that the Subaru was the same car that Barakat was seen driving from a friend's house on July 10 and returning it at about 10.30am on July 12.
