Alleged western Sydney gang rapist granted bail

A Sudanese man allegedly involved in the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl in a western Sydney car park has been granted bail by the NSW Supreme Court.

Hoxton Park resident Hassan Kugor, 20, denies sexually assaulting the teenager, but the NSW Supreme Court heard there was DNA evidence relating to him that formed part of a strong prosecution case.

It is alleged that on June 21 last year, Kugor and five others, including his twin brother and two 16-year-old boys, approached the girl last June while she was sitting outside Liverpool Library, using the library's free WiFi.

Under the pretence of meeting a mutual friend, the group coaxed her into a council car park stairwell and then raped her, police say.

Police allege the assault was carried out by at least two males, including Kugor, while the others waited nearby.

Kugor, who is accused of being the ringleader in the assault, has been charged with four counts of sexual assault in company, as well as robbery in company.

The girl's phone was stolen from her bag during the incident.

"It's a shocking offence," Justice David Davies said, proceeding to impose strict bail conditions on Kugor, including that he live with a family friend in Blacktown.

His father, who appeared in court alongside Kugor's partner, with whom he has a 7-month-old child, posted $5000 for his release.

The Kugor brothers are scheduled to appear in Liverpool Local Court in a week's time.
