Man, 83, breaks leg sky diving in NSW

An 83-year-old man has broken his leg in a sky diving accident in the NSW Hunter Valley.

Newcastle Sport Parachute Club president Ian Robertson said conditions were perfect for Sunday's jump near Singleton and the man was an experienced parachutist with over 1200 jumps.

"He could have got a wind gust or something," Mr Robertson said.

"He just landed hard, it's something that happens in our sport."

Mr Roberts said the man, who began parachuting at the age of 60, was in good spirits following the landing.

"We were talking to him and having a few jokes," Mr Robertson said.

"He's a pretty nuggety little bloke."

It is believed the man landed heavily breaking his femur in a solo jump.

The accident happened at 12.30 on Sunday.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter has flown the man to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle in a stable condition.
