Long wait over for Sydney Apple fans

Three young Sydneysiders who spent 10 days camped outside the Apple store in the CBD have been cheered by staff members as they became the first Aussies to buy the new iPhone.

Apple staff opened the doors at 8am on Friday with scores of people cued up in anticipation of the launch of the Apple iPhone 8 series and the Apple Watch Series 3.

At the front of the line were Abdelsalam Amailef, Mazen Kourouche and Rami Dandachi, all in their late teens, who pitched their tents outside the George Street store 10 days ago, making it one of the longest times Apple fans have waited in Sydney to be first for a new iPhone.

"This is the first time I've lined up so the first couple of nights dragged on, but it was really exciting," Mr Amailef told AAP on Friday.

"I had a few lectures from my parents, they weren't too fond of the idea."

To pass the time Mr Amailef and his two friends made prank videos and studied their university work.

The latest edition of the iPhone, which costs upwards from $1079, claims to have the most durable glass of any smartphone, wireless charging and up to 256 GB of memory.

The third Apple Watch, which starts from $459, has built-in cellular abilities allowing users to text and call without their phone.
