Just a few Aussie travellers have been able to head home from Bali as a volcanic ash cloud continues to hover over Denpasar.

Jetstar was due to operate five scheduled and two recovery flights out of Bali on Saturday.

The airline said all flights to Bali from Australia were cancelled. It said it would provide an update on whether Sunday flights out of Bali would go ahead later on Saturday.

Virgin Australia meanwhile continued to ground all flights to Bali over the weekend because conditions "remain unfavourable".

Ash from Mt Rinjani, on the island of Lombok east of Bali, has been blowing toward Denpasar airport for more than a week after the volcano started emitting debris on October 25.

It's the second time in recent months volcano eruptions in Indonesia have thrown the travel plans of Bali and homeward-bound Australians into chaos.
