Roosters player Shaun Kenny-Dowall will have a tense weekend as he waits for a magistrate to decide whether he is guilty of claims he physically abused his former partner.

The Kiwi international is facing 11 charges which include allegations he kicked and headbutted Jessica Peris, put her in a headlock and threw a phone at her.

Kenny-Dowall's lawyer on Friday urged Magistrate Greg Grogin to dismiss the charges, claiming the prosecution failed to prove their case in the three-day hearing.

But police prosecutor Amin Assaad argued the 28-year-old was a jealous and controlling boyfriend who had anger problems.

Ms Peris was supported in court by her mother, Senator Nova Peris, as details of the couple's volatile relationship were laid bare.

Mr Grogin is expected to consider the matter over the weekend, with a judgment expected on Monday.
