Jury retires in Michael Cranston trial

A jury has retired to deliberate in the trial of former Australian Taxation Office deputy commissioner Michael Cranston, who is accused of misusing his position to help his son.

Cranston, 59, is on trial in the NSW District Court after pleading not guilty to using information he obtained as a deputy commissioner, and exercising influence in the capacity of his role, with the intention of dishonestly obtaining a benefit for his son Adam.

On Wednesday, three weeks after the trial began, the jurors retired to consider their verdicts.
