A joey has been rescued from its mother's pouch after she was hit and killed by a car in Sydney's west.
Police arrived at the scene in Wetherill Park Thursday morning to find the kangaroo dead, but the joey alive and well inside her pouch.
The six-month-old joey will remain in the care of volunteers from the Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service and is expected to be released back into local bushland once he's old enough to fend for himself.
