An Iranian man has been arrested as he was trying to board an international flight at Sydney airport and charged with the alleged sexual assault of two teenage girls.

The girls, aged 13 and 15, were allegedly sexually and indecently assaulted by a man in Chipping Norton earlier this month, police said on Thursday.

A 28-year-old Iranian national was arrested by Australian Federal Police at Sydney's international airport on Wednesday night.

"He was going back home," a NSW police spokeswoman told AAP on Thursday.

The man has been charged with numerous child sex offences including six counts of sexual assault with a child under the age of 14 and one count of aggravated indecent assault of a child under the age of 16.

He has been refused bail and is due to face Waverley Local Court on Thursday.
