Iconic Sydney eatery in heart of city unexpectedly shuts its doors
An iconic food spot in the heart of Sydney’s Chinatown has abruptly shut its doors, promising they are taking a “short break”.
Emperor’s Garden Restaurant, which has been open since 1979, was reportedly forced to shut its doors after a notice out the front of the business stated it had been “lawfully re-entered and possession taken”.

The sign warned that entry was prohibited and that the locks had been changed.
The 47-year-old restaurant took to social media to reassure customers they’ll be back, vowing it is just a hiatus.
“Plot twist: we’re not closing,” they said in an Instagram post.
“We’re just making a few moves behind the scenes.

“That also means the Puffs are deflating for now.”
Emperor’s Garden Restaurant has been a staple of Sydney’s Chinatown, providing authentic Cantonese cuisine and its popular custard-filled Emperor’s cream puffs that attract long lines across the street.
They said the Emperor’s Garden BBQ and Noodles location on Thomas Street remained open.
