Ibrahim family targeted in Sydney raids

WHAT OCCURRED DURING MULTIPLE SYDNEY RAIDS

- 1.8 tonnes of MDMA, 136 kilograms of cocaine and 15 kilograms of crystal meth bound for Australia seized in the Netherlands. The drugs had an estimated street value of $810 million.

- 30 search warrants carried out in Sydney, including at the Dover Heights home of Kings Cross club identity John Ibrahim.

- Nine men and one woman arrested in Sydney, including Ahmad "Rock" Ahmad, the brother of slain gangland kingpin Wally Ahmad.

- Five people were arrested in Dubai and two in The Hague, reportedly including Mr Ibrahim's brothers Michael and Fadi.

- Mr Ibrahim's son Daniel, 27, is believed to be among those in custody.

- Mustapha Dib, who walked free from jail in February 2016 after his conviction for the murder of a young woman was quashed, was also arrested. He was handed a sentence of at least 30 years in 2012 for the execution-style killing but three judges found there was reasonable doubt he was responsible.

- Two inter-related Australian drug syndicates were busted. Police said they were connected at the lower levels and were not in business competition.

- The syndicates were working closely with groups in Dubai and the Netherlands to purchase and import drugs into Australia in shipping containers.

- Charges will include conspiracy to import a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug, which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, and dealing in the proceeds of crime worth $1 million or more, which can attract a 25-year sentence.

- Extradition is underway for those arrested overseas.
