Human remains have been located in the water off Pearl Beach on the Central Coast, where a five-year-old boy was swept into the sea earlier this month.

A man walking his dog on the beach about 3.30pm yesterday located what he believed to be human remains.

Police from Brisbane Water Local Area Command, along air ambulance and police divers, retrieved the remains which will now be forensically examined.

While the formal identification is yet to be completed, officers will focus the investigation around that of missing boy Chayce Kofe, who was swept into the water off Pearl Beach on July 10.

His disappearance sparked a massive sea and air search which was unable to locate him.

Inquiries are continuing.
