Western Sydney tops hot spots for tots

Western Sydney is baby central for NSW with suburban Blacktown having the most births for the third year in a row.

Neighbouring areas Auburn, Bankstown, Merrylands, Liverpool, Parramatta and Guildford also made the top 10 baby hot spots and have dominated the list every year, according to Births, Deaths & Marriages data.

"Clearly many parents believe the west is best when it comes to babies," Births, Deaths & Marriages Registrar Amanda Ianna said in a statement on Monday.

"Over the past decade, Western Sydney has been driving the state's population growth as young families are drawn to affordable housing and employment opportunities," she said.

Randwick in eastern Sydney and regional cities Orange and Dubbo filled out the top 10.

Numbers were down from the last poll, with 784 babies born in Blacktown in 2015 compared to the 846 needed to nab the top spot in 2014.

There's been a six per cent drop in birth rates across the state in the past four years, from 96,853 births in 2012 to 90,833 in 2015.
