Hoons are pouring oil onto roads to do burnouts, police in NSW have warned.

Police released mobile phone video of a Ford Falcon on a narrow bridge, its spinning wheels billowing smoke as a small crowd watches.

A puddle of oil sits beneath the car's back wheels.

The cameraperson who uploaded the footage blurred faces and the number plate of the car, which is apparently driven by a red P-plater.

The video is believed to be shot in the Grafton area in the state's north.

Police said the video showed "reckless and dangerous behaviour that not only risked the safety of the hoons, but also of innocent road users".

Police anticipate the driver will be located and arrested soon.
