Shots fired in Sydney home invasion, man arrested

A man is in custody after gunfire erupted during a home invasion in Sydney's west overnight.

Just after 11.40pm, police were called to a home on Marsden Street in St Marys.

Officers were told a group of men had forced their way into the home, before firing a gun and threatening the occupants.

None of the residents were injured.

The invaders fled before police arrived, but responding officers located a car travelling on Saddington Street, which crashed into a fence on the same street a short time later.

The occupants fled the crashed car, and a search of it afterwards found ammunition.

Police then attended a unit complex where they arrested a 45-year-old man.

He was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital under police guard, with what police believe are injuries sustained during the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
