The younger brother of slain standover figure Walid Ahmad has admitted he was behind a fatal shooting that sparked a series of revenge attacks across Sydney.

Mahmoud "Brownie" Ahmad, 37, on Friday pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Safwan Charbaji outside a Condell Park panel beater's workshop in April 2016.

The 32-year-old was shot in the head and chest through the windscreen of a car, which was then used to drive him to hospital.

His death inflamed tensions between warring factions of Sydney's underworld that simmered for more than a year.

Ahmad initially faced a murder charge but that was later replaced by the lesser charge.

"Guilty ... that's to the manslaughter, yeah?" Ahmad said when pleading in the NSW Supreme Court on Friday.
