Guilty plea over 'highest ever' DUI in NSW

A NSW woman caught getting behind the wheel with nearly nine times the legal alcohol limit in her system has pleaded guilty to high-range drink-driving.

Police say Trudi Margrit Friend earned the dubious distinction of recording the highest-ever prescribed concentration of alcohol (PCA) in NSW history four months ago.

It's alleged the 52-year-old swerved off a road at Boambee East, near Coffs Harbour, on a Wednesday afternoon in January and crashed into a fence.

She was rushed to hospital and a blood sample taken.

Police say it was not until March that they received official confirmation of her blood alcohol content, which came in at a whopping 0.486.

Friend's licence was seized and on Monday, in Coffs Harbour Local Court, her lawyer entered a guilty plea on her behalf to the offence of high-range PCA.

The case was adjourned so that Friend can take part in the Traffic Offenders' Program.

She is expected to face sentencing proceedings later this month.
