Three young women and a man have been charged over allegations they tried to stop paramedics from treating a teen who had been hit by a train and later died from his injuries.

Emergency services responded to an 18-year-old man who had his legs severed on railway lines at a crossing at Taree on December 21.

But the females, 14, 17 and 19 and the man, 34, allegedly pushed and hurled insults at paramedics and tried to stop them treating the man.

The 18-year-old was taken to John Hunter Hospital but later died.

The group also threw rocks at police and the train driver, police allege.

The man was on Thursday charged with several offences, including five counts of assaulting police and obstruction of and violence against ambulance officers.

Similar charges were laid against the girls and woman.

The adults were granted conditional bail and are due before Taree Local Court on February 24.

The girls are listed to appear at Children's court on the same day.
