Greens call for TAFE overhaul

The NSW Greens want $900 million of government money stripped from private schools and colleges and put into TAFE.

The proposal would reverse coalition reforms introduced in 2012 which cut funding and encouraged private sector competition.

MP John Kaye said the policy would redirect $600 million a year by ensuring no public money goes to private colleges where equivalent courses could be provided by TAFE.

He also outlined a plan to strip $300 million a year from non-government schools to help reduce TAFE fees and restore lost services.

"TAFE would be able to reverse the cuts to courses, colleges and contact hours, reinstate face-to-face teaching and restore outreach programs and services for students with disability," he said.
