New evidence relating to the 2002 shooting murder of a man has sparked a search of a property in Sydney's north.

Jason Friend was shot in the head while he slept in 2002 in West Hoxton.

Ms Friend was charged with murder and is currently serving 18 years in jail but police believe someone else was involved in the shooting.

Police said they had reopened the case after receiving fresh information that led to an ongoing search for a firearm and other evidence related to the case.

The search is being undertaken at a semi-rural property in Berrilee.

In 2005, Ms Friend stood trial alongside her ex-lover Philip Raymond Grubb for her husband's murder.

It was alleged the couple had conspired to shoot Mr Friend with a shotgun before removing his body.

Both pleaded not guilty to the crime.

A jury found Ms Friend guilty but failed to reach a verdict in Grubb's case.
