Governments to work on new gun amnesty

The federal government is planning a national gun amnesty while moving to increase the penalties for smuggling.
Legislation to increase the maximum imprisonment time to 20 years for gun smuggling, with a mandatory minimum of five years, will be introduced to parliament on Thursday.
Justice Minister Michael Keenan told reporters in Canberra his state and territory colleagues will soon work out details for a gun amnesty.
