Four now charged with lighting NSW fires

A 12-year-old boy is accused of lighting a fire in the central west of NSW during a time of "catastrophic" fire danger.

NSW Police say the boy was charged on Monday with lighting a grass fire in Orange that damaged about 100 already-wrecked cars on Saturday.

A nearby animal shelter also had to be evacuated.

The boy was granted bail and is expected to face a children's court on March 27.

A 13-year-boy, was charged on Saturday over the same incident.

Police say fires were also deliberately lit at at Nabiac on the mid north coast on Friday and Mango Creek on the Central Coast on Sunday.

Former RFS volunteer firefighter Ricky Kenneth Ballard-Lestrange, 31, faced court in Taree on Monday charged with two counts of intentionally causing fire and being reckless to its spread in relation to the Nabiac fires.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on Sunday over the Mango Creek blaze.

He was later charged with setting fire to land during a total fire ban, intentionally causing a fire and being reckless as to its spread.
