Five teenagers have been arrested and charged over an attack on a group of people in Sydney's southwest that left a man in a critical condition with a fractured skull.

James Rajasuriar, 22, remains in Liverpool Hospital in an induced coma after he, two other men and two women were violently assaulted with baseball bats and metal batons early on Wednesday in Chipping Norton.

Police say Mr Rajasuriar was allegedly knocked unconscious by a blow to the back of the head with a bat or baton.

He suffered a fractured and lacerated skull, abdominal injuries and fractured ribs.

An 18-year-old woman was also taken to hospital in a stable condition after being punched and kicked.

Police said detectives executed a search warrant at a house in Milperra on Thursday and arrested five males, one aged 18 and the others 17.

They were charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm and affray.

The 18-year-old was granted conditional bail to appear in Liverpool Local Court on September 9 and the 17-year-olds were also granted conditional bail to appear in a children's court on September 8.
