Man allegedly launched fireworks at police in Sydney

A man has been charged after fireworks were allegedly launched at police in Sydney's east overnight.

At about 10.20 pm, police driving on Bilga Crescent, Malabar, allegedly saw a man setting off fireworks into the air.

As officers approached, the man allegedly aimed and launched the fireworks toward the police car.

The two officers and another passsenger onboard were uninjured and the car was not damaged.

After a short foot pursuit, police apprehended a 46-year-old man.

They allegedly found a slingshot and a jet lighter on his person.

The man was charged with having a prohibited weapon, handling explosives, and assaulting police.

He was refused bail and will appear in court today.
