Forensic investigators have finished sifting through a fire-gutted unit in southern NSW where a baby girl died, but the cause of the blaze remains unknown.

The one-year-old girl was killed when the Queanbeyan East unit went up in flames on Monday afternoon.

The girl's 22-year-old mother, Tameka Perceval, and three-year-old brother were rescued from the fire and taken to hospital.

Ms Perceval remains in hospital but the boy has been been released and is in the care of relatives, a police spokeswoman said on Thursday.

The unit was no longer a crime scene as it's been processed by forensic officers who will determine the cause of the fire, she said.
