Fadi Ibrahim 'could be free Wednesday'

Fadi Ibrahim could be freed on bail as early as Wednesday after appearing in court over allegations linked to an international drug and tobacco-smuggling conspiracy.

The 43-year-old brother of Sydney nightclub identity John Ibrahim was among four men extradited from Dubai at the weekend over their alleged roles in the syndicates.

His lawyer Abbas Soukie was on Tuesday rushing to finalise paperwork for his client's release and said while Ibrahim may be free as early as Wednesday, "realistically" it may take longer.

His bail came with several restrictive conditions, including a $2.2 million surety imposed on Monday.

Ibrahim was one of 18 people arrested in Sydney and Dubai last month, including John Ibrahim's son Daniel and another brother Michael, after police thwarted alleged plans to import $810 million worth of drugs into Australia.

He is not alleged to have been involved with the drug transactions, however is accused of putting up $800,000 to fund a tobacco importation deal.
