Extradition sought for slain woman's ex

Police are seeking the extradition of a man from Canberra so he can be charged over the bashing death of his former partner in her southern Sydney home.

Stephen Boyd, 51, remains in Canberra Hospital where he is being treated for a broken jaw and neck injury after being captured by police following more than 24 hours on the run.

His former partner Tina Kontozis, also 51, was found bludgeoned to death, believed with a cricket bat, at Bundeena on Sunday afternoon.

Their 17-year-old son was also taken to hospital with arm injuries police have indicated are consistent with defensive wounds.

Mr Boyd was initially treated at Queanbeyan Hospital after his car hit an embankment during a pursuit with police on Monday afternoon, and was later transferred to Canberra.

"It's worse than we first thought," a police spokeswoman said.

"He hit something during the pursuit and his face hit the steering wheel, so he's got some sort of facial injury."

Police will have to wait for Mr Boyd to be discharged so he can be re-arrested and charged in NSW.
