Ex-wife tells of attacks by pedo husband
The former wife of a jailed pedophile dance instructor has told a royal commission that he would become violent if she challenged him.
The woman, using the pseudonym BZB, married Grant Davies in 2001 and divorced him after he was arrested for multiple child sex abuse offences committed while he was a director and teacher at RG Dance, a now defunct Sydney school.
She said during their marriage she took out one AVO against Davies and applied for a second one at another stage.
BZB told a Royal commission inquiry on Wednesday that she and other members of his family often tried to raise what they saw as "boundary violations" by him in his dealings with students at RG Dance.
She told David Lloyd, counsel for the commission, that when she shared her viewpoint with her husband she ended up feeling like she was the crazy one.
"I ended up feeling that I was being silly and he made me feel like - how could I even begin to understand the kind of relationship" he had with students.
BZB is a primary school teacher but said Grant Davies made her feel that her relationship with her students was nothing compared to the elite performance he required of his children.
She said Grant Davies' attitude to his sister Rebecca, who founded RG Dance with him, was that she was trying to bully him and was overprotective.
BZB said she did discuss the boundary violations - like Grant hugging children - with Rebecca who told her she thought it was "unprofessional".
After an argument in 2006 she left him and planned to leave him for good. The argument started when she tried to help him with his computer. That is when she got an AVO.
A computer belonging to Davies was seized by police in 2007 after complaints that he was sending very young students sexually explicit text messages about masturbation and telling them of his sex fantasies.
No charges were ever laid, partly because no evidence of text messaging could be found.
Davies had received legal advice to get rid of a computer he had previously owned.
