A 74-year-old former Sydney railway employee has been charged with sexually abusing another employee in the 1970s.

The man was arrested at his Chatswood home on Wednesday after an investigation into allegations he abused a 16-year-old boy under his supervision at Central Railway Station.

Police will allege in court the man sexually abused the teenager a number of times when they worked at the station from 1973-1975.
