Elephant baby boom at NSW zoos

There's a baby elephant boom for NSW zoos, with two big bundles of joy expected within six months of each other at Dubbo and Sydney.

Western Plains Zoo's endangered Asian elephant Thong Dee will give birth this November, the first calf to be born at the Dubbo zoo, and Taronga Zoo Sydney's Pak Boon is due next April.

"A baby elephant on the way is the perfect reason for visitors from other parts of the state to pack their trunks and head to the world-class Taronga Western Plains Zoo," Deputy Premier and Member for Dubbo Troy Grant said on Thursday.
