Elderly woman hit by car in NSW dies

A pedestrian hit by a car on NSW's south coast has died in hospital.

The 78-year-old woman was struck in Shellharbour about 9.50am on Thursday.

She was using the designated walkway between north and south bound lanes of Central Road when she was hit by a Holden Commodore driven by a 23-year-old woman, police said in a statement on Thursday.

The injured woman was treated at the scene before being flown to St George Hospital in a critical condition but died on Saturday morning.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
