Elderly man dies in NSW house fire

An elderly man has died in a suspicious house fire in the NSW Hunter region.

Emergency crews were called to a demountable home in Wallalong, near Maitland, early on Friday.

A body, believed to be the 72-year-old male resident, was found inside, police said.

A crime scene has been established and police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
