Eighty charged in Sydney cocaine crackdown

More than 80 people have been charged in a Christmas season crackdown on cocaine supply in Sydney.

Police seized more than 350g of the drug during the operation, which took place over six nights in November and December.

Forty-six people were charged with drug supply and 38 with drug possession, police said.

They included a 51-year-old taxi driver allegedly found with 13g of cocaine and $3400 cash in a hidden compartment in his cab at Barangaroo on November 30.

Others were arrested in the Sydney CBD, Cronulla, Bondi and Clovelly.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Bell said NSW police were disappointed.

"Officers were astounded by how brazen some of these alleged drug transactions have become, often taking place in highly visible and crowded locations in Sydney's CBD and surrounding suburbs," he said in a statement on Monday.

In May, 55 people were charged over "dial-a-dealer" services in Sydney's CBD and eastern suburbs.
