Echidna escapes prickly situation

An echidna has been rescued from a prickly situation after a group of women spotted the mammal in the middle of the road near Wollongong.
An Illawarra police rescue squad unit stopped on its way back to base, to assist the group who were trying to stop the echidna from being hit by traffic, police said.
They checked the tiny creature for injuries before releasing him well away from the road.
