Duo arrested over Newcastle shooting

Two men have been arrested after a man in his 20s was found with gunshot wounds to his left thigh and hand in home unit in Newcastle.

The 27-year-old was taken to hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning and remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police later found a shotgun and stolen car near the unit and linked the vehicle to an armed robbery.

They raided a Newcastle home on Thursday evening, arresting two men.

A 24 year-old has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possessing a prohibited firearm and stealing a motor vehicle.

Refused bail, he was expected to appear in Maitland Local Court on Friday afternoon.

A 20-year-old taken to hospital for treatment for a health condition was expected to be released into police custody.
