The 35-year-old man ploughed into the back of a garbage truck this morning. (9NEWS) 

A driver has been rescued after he became wedged underneath a garbage truck in Sydney’s south this morning.

Emergency crews worked to free the 35-year-old man after he ploughed into the rear of the parked truck at Bexley around 4am.

He was taken to St George Hospital.

A small dog, who was inside the vehicle with the man at the time, escaped the wreck unharmed.

The crash has been cleared and all lanes on Stoney Creek Road near Staples St have reopened, traffic is easing.
