NSW drink-drive mum gets home detention

A Sydney woman caught driving more than six times over the blood-alcohol limit with three child passengers has been sentenced to home detention.

Erika Francesca Bycroft admitted to police she had five vodkas on the afternoon of October 11 last year, before she was followed and stopped at Westleigh in northwest Sydney.

The 39-year-old was given nine-months home detention at Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday but will be eligible for parole on November 24.

Police said they could immediately smell alcohol coming from Bycroft and described her as having bloodshot eyes and "signs of bark and grass" on her dress.

She had been seen swerving across a road in a residential area where children were playing and almost hit a pedestrian refuge.

More than 90 minutes after being stopped by another female driver, Bycroft returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.327.

As well as being given home detention, Bycroft has lost her licence for three years.
