Dog shot dead after attacking officer

A man who was allegedly threatening people with a high-powered bow has been chased down and arrested, and his dog shot dead after it attacked a police officer.

The man, who was holding the compound bow and arrow, was threatening members of the public at Marks Point, police say.

When officers arrived he ran into a house and moments later a dog ran out, attacking a dog handler and police dog.

The officer fired his gun and the dog died at the scene.

A 23-year-old man was arrested nearby after a short chase.

Police dog Marco did not require medical attention while his handler was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
