Doctors to rally over Adani mine

Dozens of doctors will rally outside the Commonwealth Bank's Sydney offices calling on the organisation not to fund the Adani coal mine in Queensland.

The protesters, who will wear stethoscopes and surgical masks, believe the proposed $20 billion thermal coal mine will damage the health of Australians.

If it goes ahead, the mine would be the biggest in Australia and is expected to operate for 90 years.

The group will deliver a letter calling on the bank to rule out financially backing the mine.

Commonwealth Bank quit an advisory role on the project in August 2015.

Westpac has previously been targeted by similar campaigns and two weeks ago declared it would limit thermal coal project lending.

National Australia Bank said in September 2015 it would not finance the project, while ANZ said in December it was scaling down its exposure to mining.
