100 firies battle Sydney warehouse blaze

A massive fire has broken out at a disused Hyundai parts warehouse in western Sydney, just three months after it was hit by a freak hailstorm that destroyed all its stock.

More than 100 firefighters were dispatched on Thursday afternoon to battle the blaze on Peter Brock Drive, Eastern Creek, just metres from the M4 motorway.

The fire had been contained by 5pm but crews were still working to extinguish the flames on Thursday evening.

Social media lit up as Sydney-based users posted pictures of large plumes of black smoke that were visible from across the city.

Ninety people were evacuated from the nearby area but a Fire and Rescue NSW spokeswoman told AAP no one was believed to be inside the building itself because it was under demolition.

In statements published on Hyundai's website in April, the car company said large parts of the warehouse had collapsed following a "freak and unprecedented weather event" and all stock was lost.
