Deregistered doctor gets three year ban for botched botox injections

A Sydney man masquerading as a doctor says the patients who dobbed him in were "stooges" and described a NSW health body's findings against him as "bulls—t".

Ian Haris operated a Sydney cosmetic clinic under a prohibition order issued in 2014 – having already lost his medical licence in 2015.

He administered botox to 10 patients, at least two of whom believed he was a doctor.

Haris botched two of those procedures, injecting air into one patient's forehead and injecting another in the wrong area.

The Health Care Complaints Commission says Haris – who has also used the names Ian Norman and Ian Raymond Gregory – told two patients he was still a doctor.

He also allowed various cosmetic clinics to continue to refer to him as such.

Haris was deregistered in 2000 after various acts of malpractice and misconduct including removing the wrong piece of a patient's nose, illicit drug use, and having a sexual relationship with a patient.

He strongly denies the HCCC's charges.

"People want doctors. I can't stop her (the owner of the clinic) from saying 'we have a doctor here'," he told the Sydney Morning Herald in response to the claims of misrepresentation.

"What am I supposed to do? Shoot her?"

Regarding the patients that had complained, he said he believed they were acting as spies for the Commission.

"I suspect those patients were stooges of the HCCC," he said.

"This is outrageous. They have deliberately misrepresented the facts. The whole thing is a farce."
