Demerit points introduced for illegal parkers

From next week, NSW drivers who illegally park in disabled spaces could find themselves without a license.

Frustrated by the numbers flouting the rules, the state government has said drivers now face demerit points.

“These people who can afford to park [in disabled spaces], points or their license are the precious things they hate to lose,” transport minister Duncan Gay told 9NEWS.

Victoria Avenue and Anderson St in Chatswood, Pitt St in the city and Reserve Road in Artarmon are among the state’s worst streets.

The move has been welcomed by disability support groups.
