The NSW Illawarra region, central and southern tablelands are set for a wild night with damaging winds over 90km per hour forecast.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for areas including Bowral, Katoomba, Goulburn, Oberon, Crookwell and Taralga as a low pressure trough drives winds averaging 60 to 70km per hour on Sunday evening and early Monday.

Winds are expected to ease gradually during Monday morning.
