Damaging winds forecast for southeast NSW

Damaging winds are expected to batter southeast NSW and the ACT on Thursday, as the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning.

Maximum gusts of 110km/h are forecast for parts of the Illawarra, South Coast, Central and Southern Tablelands, Australian Capital Territory and Snowy Mountains.

Gale-force winds are expected to return to the Alps on Wednesday night, with gusts averaging 80km/h, and up to 130km/h is forecast on the peaks on Thursday.

Gusts up to 104km/h hit Thredbo and 98km/h at Perisher Valley on Tuesday night.

The State Emergency Service is urging people to move vehicles away from trees and to secure loose items on their properties.
